Rapper, Lil Durag Flap’s (@lilduragflap) latest EP, PRETTY GIRLS LOVE DU, is more than just a drop—it’s a long time coming.
LDF first started working on the project in 2022, but it sat on the back burner as LDF sharpened his skills and chased the kind of growth that only time (and a few releases) can give.
After almost shelving it for good, he realized what he was chasing wasn’t perfection—it was clarity. The result? Six of his favorite tracks from the process, priced together with intention and surrounded by trusted collaborators.
To celebrate the release, we sent DU 20 questions to get a deeper look at the artist behind the music.
Creative Process + Music
What’s the first thing you do when starting a song?
Du: Normally when I start a song, I like to immerse myself in the instrumental. I have to really feel the beat and fall in love with it to lay something down. I’m kinda picky with production.
What does your studio setup look like? Are there usually a lot of people around or are you more secluded?
Du: A normal session with my engineer and producer, Teelay and maybe 4ourthwall is in the mix somewhere but for the most part I like to keep it really relaxed and less crowded in the session.
Were there any songs on 'PRETTY GIRLS LOVE DU' you almost didn’t include? What changed your mind?
Du: SAYUDO! SAYUDO almost didn’t make the cut, it was one of those records from the later sessions and I just didn’t really know if it fit. I had totally forgot about the record and 4ourthwall brought it back up one a day and that’s how it made the cut.
Who or what were you listening to while making this project? Anything that might surprise us?
Du: I was listening to a lot of R&B honestly. But the main records I pulled inspiration from were Wolf by Tyler the Creator, Die for My Bitch by Baby Keem and Drake’s best album ever, Take Care. Surprisingly though, I mainly pull from R&B and older Alternative records even with my other music.
How do you decide on track titles? Do any titles on the project hold any personal significance?
Du: I just normally go off feeling, a reference point or something I say in the record. 67th ST definitely holds the most personal significance. One of my favorite spots off Shore Dr.
Lyrics + Life
Is this project about any one person specifically or multiple persons?
Du: This project pulls from a lot of personal experiences over the years. So it’s about multiple people.
What’s the realest lyric you’ve ever written? Not necessarily the most clever—just the most you.
Du: First half of GEMINI definitely the realest sht I’ve ever wrote. That song just resonates so much with me still, especially with my grandmothers passing. That first half makes me reflect on my life and my family’s dynamic.
If you had to describe this project in 3 words, which would you choose?
Du: HONEST. REFLECTIVE. GENUINE.
What's your favorite song on 'PRETTY GIRLS LOVE DU'?
Du: 67th ST
Which song on the project took the longest to complete?
Du: I feel like every song took relatively the same amount of time. All of the records at-least have a year or two of age on them so it’s kinda fuzzy.

The Person Behind the Music
What’s a Lil Durag Flap day off look like?
Du: Rotting. I have to rot sometimes to recenter. On top of that I like to hit a trail or a bakery or coffee shop. I like to do pretty relaxed stuff.
What’s one thing that grounds you when life gets loud?
Du: A good walk on a trail. Something about being outside makes everything click again. I feel like I can breathe in when I go outside.
What do people assume about you that’s totally wrong?
Du: That I’m pretentious. I’m a pretty down to earth person.
What’s a moment in your personal life that lowkey changed how you create?
Du: I’d say like different relationships. Putting myself back in my shoes of certain moments and reflecting really helped put this project together. It definitely played a part in my writing ability.
What’s something that your close friends know about you that fans would never guess?
Du:
Behind the Scenes
Are there any wild session stories from making this project?
Du: It’s been some pretty funny sessions especially with this project. A LOT of questions from the guys.
Any collaborations that almost happened—but didn’t? Can you talk about why?
Du: I had some background vocals from Borilin on one record that didn’t come out on this project. I was fighting with the team for that record for the EP. It would’ve definitely made the album cut.
Is there a hidden message, sample, or Easter egg in this project that people haven’t caught yet?
Du: I don’t think so, Art is always open to interpretation once you give it to the world so that’s for the listener.
What was the most emotionally charged track to record, and why?
Du: 67th ST, I spilled my heart out on that one. I feel like it’s close to my heart. It made me relive a lot of my early young adult summers and past summer flings. I love that song.
Is it fair to call you a certified lover boy?
Du: I would guess so, I got a big heart. I like to be really genuine in relationships whether romantic or platonic. I’ve always just loved love and the feelings it brings out of people. It’s such an intense feeling.
